Introduction to Region Located on
the west coast of Vancouver Island and rich in natural resources, Zeballos
is nestled in the bottom of a river valley at the head of an inlet. Named for a Spanish explorer, Lt. Ciriaco Cevallos, who sailed to this region with Captain Malaspina in 1791, Zeballos was originally established during the gold mining years (1924-1948). Mining was the industrial focus for many years. Eventually forestry and fishing became the main industries. Tourism is rapidly growing. Check out the students’ millennium project about life in Zeballos Today at www.sd84.bc.ca.

Zeballos Life From time to time there are Village events. These are very worthwhile to go to and become a part of the community (rather than just the school community.) The Village has a number of groups you can become involved in. Some of these include: the Recreation Commission, the Rangers, and the Fish and Wildlife Group. |
