Kyuquot Elementary Secondary School

Facility

The school is comprised of one main building with an office, three classrooms, a staff room, and library. Four portables serve most of the secondary grades; one portable is utilized
as computer lab (about 20 computers). The school also has
a small gymnasium.

Students

Secondary student grouping varies for certain courses. Generally, Grades 1-6 are divided into a 1-3 class and
4,5,6 class. Secondary grouping is usually 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12.   In the past, secondary teachers have also taught specific subjects to the 1-3 and 4-6 classes, which allows prep time for elementary teachers and variety for all.
Kindergarten is held on the Reserve, taught by a
School District 84 teacher.

Alternative teaching techniques (for example, outdoor education and art) are encouraged by the Board to facilitate learning. This offers the teacher freedom to be creative in his/her approach while realizing that motivating students to partake in the learning process takes precedence over fulfilling a large number of prescribed IRP learning outcomes.
