. . . is located southeast of the Brooks Peninsula, on the outer coast of Vancouver Island. The settlement is comprised of Houpsitas Native Reserve, 1 kilometer-long Walter's Island, and several smaller inhabited islands, all within about a kilometer of each other. Kyuquot village has small general store, a general delivery post office, Red Cross medical clinic, telephone and high speed internet services, bed and breakfast, a motel and seasonal restaurant. With a population of about 200, most are from the two tribes of Nuu-chah-nulth (once termed “Nootka”) people. Kyuquot is visited every week by the coastal freighter, Uchuck III, which sails out of Gold River. It brings groceries for the store, building supplies and other freight for the villagers. In the warmer months, it also brings tourists and kayakers. Air Nootka has three scheduled flights by float plane every week into Kyuquot. They bring the mail and fly people in and out of the community.
